Setting Up Your EcoQube C
What’s the size of the EcoQube C?
The EcoQube C is about 7.8" x 7.8" x 7.8" with about 1.5 gallons in volume.
Why can’t we eat the plant growing out of the EcoQube C?
1. The plant is used for filtration. If removed, the main filtering mechanism on the EcoQube C will be removed as well and cause an imbalance in the ecosystem.
2. Aquarium products are not made for food consumption. Most people may end up using aquarium fish food, dechlorinator and others recommended by local fish stores that can be toxic.
3. If we do not have this disclaimer, we may be liable for the consumption of plants grown out of the EcoQube C.
Is the compact UV sterilizer needed?
We originally built the Aquaponics filter in the EcoQube with commercial use in mind so it can be scaled for food production and run clean water through plants we harvest from the filter but a typical small aquarium will not require UV sterilization although it helps keep the water extra clear and clean by acting as a buffer for mistakes such as over feeding or too much light which can cause bacterial and algae blooms.
The compact UV sterilizer can be added on as an attachment as well!
What plants are best for filtration?
If you're wondering what to plant, the easiest thing we've been using has been mint and basil. It brings an AMAZING aroma into the room as well.
What fish/livestock are recommended for the EcoQube C?
We highly recommend keeping 1 Betta/ Siamese fighting fish because it thrives in room temperature. Other fish like guppies, endlers, white cloud mountain minnows, zebra danios can be kept in the EcoQube C as well but they each require specific water parameters.
We also recommend amano algae eating shrimp and algae eating nerite snails to keep the ecosystem pristine.
You can see additional items we offer to EcoQube 1 owners at adiventures.net.
Will you offer add ons like driftwood, rocks, and plants shown in the videos and photos?
Yes! Due to high demand from our previous campaign, we've already began selling it for the EcoQube 1 on our website adiventures.net.
How much energy does the EcoQube C consume?
Less than 7 watts when pump, light and UV is used. UV only needs to be on 2 hours/day and light only needs to be on 7 hours/day.
What are the specs of the UV sterilizer? How does it work? Why is it so expensive?
The UV sterilizer chip emits 235 nanometer wavelength ultraviolet light that kills everything that passes through. This UV chip is adopted from spectrophotometers used in biotech devices. We currently have a prototype you can drop in from the top of the filter but we are experimenting with a new version you can easily add yourself in-line where the water is being pumped into the front aquarium portion of the EcoQube C. We will post screenshots of the new design as we get closer to completion. Flow of water going through UV will be approximately 39 gallons per hour and can be increased.
Warranty on all the products we manufacture will be 12 months and the UV LED will last 10,000 hours. Suggested use will be 2 hours per day. So it should last over 13 years.
Does the EcoQube C work with salt water?
The EcoQube C was designed and tested for freshwater but it may work with a small mangrove in the filter. No guarantees there though =)
Will the lights ever burn out?
The LED chips we use are top of the line. Both UV and regular LED chips should last over 10 years at 9 hours/day run time (7 hours is suggested).
Does the EcoQube C need supplemental light like sunlight?
Sunlight is what usually causes imbalances in a aquarium or ecosystem. Sunlight has a lot of energy and can cause algae growth due to imbalances in the ecosystem. Keep it away from sunlight and your EcoQube C will never have green algae.
What will the international backers do to find seeds and plant medium?
Basil seeds should be abundant in most countries all over the world.
Sorry the tier description was unclear but the plant medium WILL BE INCLUDED for international backers. In the case the customs in your country doesn't like it and throw it away, you can always use a regular sponge =)
What is the additional shipping cost?
At the current # of backers, international shipping will cost between $25-$39. Domestic shipping will cost between $10-$20.
With volume, we hope to drop shipping prices of domestic to $6 and intl shipping to $18 (not including fees and handling.
Before we launched this campaign, we shopped around to find the best rates for our backers and realized the large fluctuations in pricing based on volume ranging from $15 all the way to $90 to some countries.
We didn't want to overestimate to cover our costs but rather see what the volume was going to be then send out a finalized shipping price after the end of the campaign.
Thank you for backing us!
International backers don’t get seeds, what seeds can we use and where can we get them?
Mint and Basil seeds are widely available for very affordable prices all over the world. Those are the 2 plants we recommend most!

What kind of plants can I grow in it?
Tests with compatible plants is ongoing. We can confirm most small, leafy herbs like basil, mint, wheatgrass and green onions. We hope to expand this with improved designs, however, to include larger, flowering plants as well.
Can you grow medical Cannabis in the EcoQube Air?
ADI Ventures is a California based company and as such we will not be testing the viability of this particular plant. We are, however, excited to see what experiments our Colorado and Washington based backers will run with the EcoQube Air.
Will the EcoQube Air need sunlight to grow the plants?
The full-spectrum LED light is programmed to give your plants the exact amount of light it needs to grow.
Why is the fogger only included in the UV model?
We currently have the UV and fogger built-in to the EcoQube Air together for manufacturing purposes. We will look into adding the fogger to the Air without the UV, but we do not have this option available at this time
When will we receive it?
We are planning to send out the EcoQube Air by February of 2017. There is still a lot of design, production, and distribution work to be done, but we estimate that this is the most realistic date. We will, of course, update everyone with any new information we have and let you know if you’ll receive your EcoQube Air later or earlier than expected.
What is the size of the EcoQube Air?
The most recent model is approximately 7” x 7” x 16” (18cm x 18cm x 40cm). These numbers, however, may change slightly based on the continuing work of our engineers and manufacturers. We will update all backers of such changes as the information comes.
What is Hydroponics?
Hydroponics is a method of agriculture that grows plants without the use of soil. Most often, hydroponically grown plants are planted in a medium that roots will anchor onto and grow throughout. Water infused with fertilizer is introduced to the system where it is absorbed by the plant medium and subsequently the roots. Using this technique, plants can be grown with a fraction of the amount of resources (water, energy, space) required to grow plants the traditional way, in soil.
What can I do with the phone app for the EcoQube Air?
We’re working hard on the phone app, trying to add as much functionality as possible. So far, we know that you’ll be able to control the LEDs of the EcoQube Air, changing the intensity of the grow lights and the color of the RGB (color) LEDs. You’ll also be able to program the light schedule of the EcoQube Air in order to sync up with your circadian rhythm.
Do I need to water the plants in the EcoQube Air?
You will need to add water to the EcoQube Air, but only once a month. All of the water in the system is in a closed cycle, so the water will be lost at a very slow rate. The EcoQube Air comes installed with a Drain Spout for easy water changes. Simply pour new, fresh water into the water basin and increasing water pressure will push older water lower in the basin out through the spout.
Do the plants or seeds come with the EcoQube Air?
Yes, for domestic backers. The EcoQube Air will come with basil or mint seeds to get you started.
Will the EcoQube Air need sunlight to grow the plants?
The full-spectrum LED light is programmed to give your plants the exact amount of light it needs to grow fastest. Extra sunlight won’t hurt, but is unnecessary.
Does the EcoQube Air consumer a lot of energy?
No, the EcoQube Air is very energy conservative. The only power used is in the energy efficient LEDs, air intake fans, and the small water pump. In the UV / Fogger model, a small amount of extra power will be used for those two functions.
Can any type of soil be used to grow plants in the EcoQube Air?
No, the EcoQube Air works hydroponically, meaning plants will grow soilessly, in a plant medium with water pumped through it.
How often will I have to change the water in the EcoQube Air?
You’ll only need to change the water in the Air about once a month. The EcoQube Air comes installed with a Drain Spout for easy water changes. Simply pour new, fresh water into the water basin and increasing water pressure will push older water lower in the basin out through the spout.
Will I need to fertilize the plants in the EcoQube Air?
Yes, the plants in the EcoQube Air grow hydroponically, meaning fertilizer must be added to the system for best results. Fertilizer should be added to the water in the Water Basin. Fertilizer compatible with the EcoQube air will be available for purchase from the ADI store.
How often do you suggest changing the Air filter?
We suggest changing the air filter every 6-8 months. However, the filter condition is dependent on the type of environment that the EcoQube Air is in.
Is the UV sterilizer necessary?
The UV sterilizer is not necessary for the function of the EcoQube Air, rather it adds another stage of filtration for the air passing through the system. Ultraviolet radiation from the unit will render inert any biological particles (bacteria, airborne viruses, mold spores) that makes it through the first two stages of filtration.
What is the fogger on the EcoQube Air? Do I need it?
The fogger is a device that, when submerged in water, uses ultrasonic vibrations to create a mist that will slowly rise into the greenhouse tank. The fogger can help to humidify the air for the plant and your room. It also looks really cool!
Do you put fish in the EcoQube Air?
No. Unlike the aquaponic EcoQube C, the EcoQube Air does not need or have any space for fish or any other aquatic animals.
What is the advantage of the EcoQube Frame?
It’s the first product that can sprout seeds vertically without soil. This saves space and is the cleanest way to garden in your home!
What is the size of the EcoQube Frame?
The EcoQube Frame is 11.5in long x 8.9in tall x 3in wide with a water capacity of 0.5L.
Why does one look bigger than the other?
They were tests and prototypes.
What’s special about micro-veggies?
Micro-veggies have up to 40x the nutrients that their fully-grown counterparts (e.g. regular veggies) have, but are often expensive to purchase (often costing around $30 - $50 per week to eat) and messy. With the Frame, you can grow up to $20 worth of micro-veggies in 10 days for under $5 and keep your home clean!
What kind of plants can I grow in it?
You can grow a variety of micro-veggies by adding different seeds to our “blank” seed pads- we suggest succulents or micro-veggies.
What kind of micro-veggies can be grown?
Currently, broccoli, wheatgrass, and basil can be grown, but we are testing out other micro-veggies.
When will I receive it?
We are planning to send out the EcoQube Frame by December 2017 for early tiers and for later tiers, February 2018. There is still a lot of design, production, and distribution work to be done, but we estimate that this is the most realistic date. We will, of course, update everyone with any new information we have and let you know if you’ll receive your EcoQube Frame later or earlier than expected.
Do I need to water the plants in the EcoQube Frame?
Simply add water into the water reservoir and our grow pads will take care of the rest.
How do the seed pads work?
Each pad has over 100 small pockets and you can add your own seeds to sprout vertically, but we’re attempting to pre-package the seeds so all that is necessary is placing in the seed pads. We cannot guarantee that yet because of issues with shipping seeds.
Does the EcoQube Frame need soil to grow the plants?
No, the EcoQube Frame grows plants and micro-veggies without any soil! Simply add water into the water reservoir, and insert the grow pad with seeds inside.
Will I need fertilizer for the plants in the EcoQube Frame?
The EcoQube Frame is able to grow plants and micro-veggies without any soil or fertilizer. Simply add water into the water reservoir, and insert the grow pad with seeds inside.
How much will the seed pads cost to replace?
Blanks without seeds will be $1.25 and with seeds will be roughly $1.99.
What is the knob used for?
The knob is still being developed, but the end goal is to make it as easy and convenient as possible for you to drain excess water from the water reservoir.
How many seed pads come with the EcoQube Frame?
The product will include 2 seed pads to start and we will supply continuous seed pads near our cost.
Are the seeds going to be organic?
We are currently working on an organic seed source.
Is the seed pad biodegradable and sustainable?
Each pad is made of biodegradable and sustainable materials. The pad is made of cellulose sponge along with cardboard.
Why isn’t my location available for shipping?
You will be able to change your address when you complete the BackerKit survey once the campaign ends. We are working with our fulfillment center to ship to other countries. In the time being, please select the closest country to you so that we can generate a good estimate for shipping costs.
Can I purchase extra EcoQubes by adding $x to my pledge?
You will be able to add additional frames when we send out the BackerKit survey. Choose the current option you want, and you will later have the opportunity to add additional frames when you receive the BackerKit Survey for a discounted price.
